We’re always being asked; “How do you manage to train these wee tots?!”

With dojos bustling full of pre and early schoolers; little balls of bouncing energy, we can understand how parents are amazed at what we are able to achieve with their little ones. Afterall, traditional dojos say they’re too young for karate.

Well, it’s all down to our secret formula. Our C.U.B.S. System.

We’ve been developing our C.U.B.S. System since we opened the Academy two years ago, and we can say with absolute confidence that IT WORKS!

We’ve taken kids from age 4, nurtured them, believed in them and then watched them shine. Our system creates iron-strong foundations, giving them skills to perform real karate techniques in class, sit and pass grading exams and, eventually, graduate to our Kids’ Karate Programme with a flying head start.

Our mini graduates have already gone on to achieve amazing things, including competing at National level and winning medals! Feats most would deem impossible for such a young age. Not for our guys though, and it’s all because they’ve been nurtured at every stage.

Challenge & Celebrate

We all love that feeling of getting something right, don’t we? We recognise that feeling of achievement is crucial for development, at any age, but even more so for our little karateka. From the very first time your child is welcomed into the dojo, they will be set realistic, measurable and achievable goals so that they feel rewarded and empowered week on week.

We’ve even crafted our own innovative and fun reward systems, such as Student of the Month and the Dojo Excellence sticker book. The children LOVE these and we’ve found that they strongly support student learning and engagement.

Understand

Teach a child to copy and they will easily duplicate. Teach a child to understand and they will unlock a curiosity to explore, learn and strengthen their own skills and knowledge. Here, their possibilities are endless. Your child will learn much more than just how to copy a movement or burn energy; our karate teachings go far beyond that.

The core of everything we do at Shobu Kai is UNDERSTANDING. Whether that’s understanding techniques and their purpose, understanding ourselves and even understanding the Japanese culture and values that so heavily influence the karate we practice.

Build Confidence

Nothing builds character quite like a martial art and we’ve seen this to be the biggest transformation in a child’s life. The discipline, integrity and responsibility taught within our karate classes are key life skills that will serve your little one right through adulthood.

Soar to Success

We know, as a parent, you only want your child to succeed. Well, that’s our goal too here at Shobu Kai Karate Academy. We only want your children to succeed too! Although the C.U.B.S. system has been designed to structure your child’s karate journey at this early stage, our overall aim is to prepare our youngsters to join our Kid’s Karate Programme.

Graduation is intended from age 7, although we’ve seen many students progress much earlier due to the unique training we have created. Not only do Cubs arrive already armed with the basics techniques and confidence to get off to a flying start, our graduate students have gone on to excel at phenomenal rates.
