Karate for Competition

Take your karate to new heights through competition.

Within our Academy, competition and competitive karate are areas we have a large focus on and the results we’ve achieved since opening have been incredible! Competing in junior, senior, veteran, and team events for both kata and kumite, we provide competition opportunities for students of all ages and abilities, should you want to. Our experience has shown us that competing in karate helps excel your performance and progress, as well as your confidence and self-belief. Not forgetting how rewarding it is to bond and have fun as a team!

The wins? They’re just the cherry on the cake.

The achievements we’ve had as an academy stems from the vast knowledge and experience of competition Sensei Sutherland has, spanning over 20 successful years. If you want to explore competitive sport karate, not only will your unique strengths and technique be developed and perfected, but you will also be coached on mindset, preparation and even nutrition. Our goal is to make you the strongest competitor you can be, so that you can achieve your personal goals!

We strive to give our competitors as many opportunities to develop as possible. Our Academy Competition Squad benefit from monthly competition-specific training and a range of competitions throughout the year, ideal for students entering the competition world. However, the best benefit our competitors get is a clear pathway to JKS Scotland’s National Squad, where they will be coached and nurtured by Sensei Paul Giannandrea, Head of JKS Scotland.

The JKS Scotland Squad is the National team for Scotland, competing all over the world and with huge success in both kata and kumite events. Students selected from our Academy Squad for the National Squad receive incredible training opportunities, such as monthly training at Honbu Dojo and guest coaches. From here, Squad members are chosen to compete for the Scottish International Team, who train elite athletes for competition around the world. The sky’s the limit!
