Athlete Training Program
Take your karate to new heights through competition.
Do you want to take your karate to the next level?
Get access to exciting and, often, life-changing opportunities?
Feel the thrill of competing alongside your teammates?
Then Shobu Kai is the karate school for you!
Our Academy has a large focus on competition for those who are interested in exploring this side of karate. We recognise the value and place competitive karate has in a student’s personal and physical development. As such, our Academy squad just keeps growing and growing!
Our Athlete Training Program allows us to work closely with our young and aspiring athletes, taking students from being total beginners, all the way to National Team Selection.
With competitions throughout the year for all levels and abilities, from age 7 to age 107, we are very fortunate to have such opportunities and pathways available to our students.
Our Academy competition squad is split into two squads; The Grassroots Squad, and The Evolution Squad.
Grassroots Squad
The Grassroots are the first level of competitors. Those who are early on in their competition journey.
Students selected for this squad will be presented with Scotland-based development competitions to take part in, as well as monthly squad training.
Evolution Squad
The Evolution Squad are those who are more experienced in competition, and those working to earn a place on JKS Scotland’s National Team.
Those selected for this squad have a number of Scotland and England based competitions available to them, and will also be selected to attend JKS Scotland’s monthly National Team training at the HQ in Dunfermline, as well as our own monthly squad training.
Those who are successful in earning a place on JKS’s National Team will also have a host of national and international competitions available to them.
What have we achieved so far?
Our karate squad can boast some incredible achievements so far, and it’s only going to get better and better.
Our Grassroots team consistently medal, and champion, at the development competitions. Whether that’s in kata or kumite, the talent we’ve been able to foster is undoubted.
More notable medal wins include JKS Scotland National Kata and Kumite champions (gold medals), Karate Scotland Kata and Kumite champions, British champions and medal winners, and our most prestigious medal place yet was securing a bronze medal at the JKS World Championships in Tokyo last summer.
But the medals and wins are just the cherry on the cake.
The maturity, independence, resilience and character building that happens as a result of being a competitor is priceless.
