Our coaches are qualified and licensed through Karate Scotland, the National Governing Body for karate. Karate Scotland is the only karate NGB recognised by Sport Scotland and they place stringent requirements on their coaches.

Certified First Aiders in Sport
Trained in Child Protection through East Dunbartonshire Council / Sport Scotland
Trained in UK Anti-Doping for athletes

SENSEI ADAM SUTHERLAND
4TH DAN // HEAD COACH, LEVEL 3 COACH & CO-OWNER
Adam began his training with Karate Union of Great Britain, over 20 years ago, grading under Sensei Yoshinobu Ohta.
Moving from strength to strength, he has accumulated a volume of top training from Senseis from all over the world. His high standard for his own development has absolutely aided his coaching practices and competition performances, making him a highly experienced and esteemed karate coach who gets outstanding results.
After 15 successful years of competing, Adam Sensei retired from the tatami at the end of 2024. Now, he gifts his knowledge and expertise to his own students, as well as being a core member of JKS Scotland’s coaching team.
Adam Sensei has achieved his Level 3 Coaching qualification from Karate Scotland, accredited by Sport Scotland.
Adam Sensei believes every karate student has the potential for greatness and he has a very special ability of helping his students achieve just that.

SENSEI KATHRYN VERONI
1ST DAN // LEVEL 2 COACH & CO-OWNER
Kathryn began training in 2019, starting her journey with the Karate Union of Great Britain, grading under Sensei Frank Brennan. Just like a duck takes to water, Kathryn was destined for karate and has made incredible accomplishments in her short journey already.
Now, as Adam’s protégé, Kathryn competes for JKS Scotland and Karate Scotland’s National Kata Teams. Amongst her accolades for 2024 are British Champion, Polish Open bronze medal and a bronze medal at JKS World Championships in Tokyo.
Kathryn’s coaching days are still young in comparison to Adam Sensei’s, but she shows a natural ability and a keen eye for attention to detail; qualities that help students perform at their peak.
Kathryn has achieved her Level 2 Coaching qualification from Karate Scotland, which is accredited by Sport Scotland. She has a personal interest in trauma-informed coaching and is currently working on projects which see karate being used to help abuse survivors recover from trauma and rebuild their confidence.

SENSEI LINDA MULDOON
1ST KYU // ASSISTANT COACH IN TRAINING
Linda began training in karate almost 3 years ago and has developed as a core member of Team Shobu Kai.
As an Early Years practitioner, specialised in working with children with Additional Support Needs, Linda has a wealth of knowledge and experience in children’s education, which contributes to our Kids karate classes. Linda supports the main coaches and is working towards achieving her coaches qualification.

BUG VERONI
3RD KYU // ASSISTANT COACH IN TRAINING
Bug started training in karate alongside her mum back in 2019. Like most teenagers, she took a step back through Covid, only returning to the dojo in 2024.
Since her return, she has been on fire! She is JKS Scotland and Karate Scotland’s current Kata Champion for her age group and shows exciting promise in competition.
Not only has she shown dedication to her own karate, she supports and aids many students in the Academy.
Bug’s particular role is within Cubs classes, where she supports the main coach and uses the opportunity to expand and develop her coaching experience. She is working towards her coaching qualification through Karate Scotland.

LINDA MULDOON
CHILD PROTECTION OFFICER
Linda has been appointed the role of CPO and has undergone key training to support this. Having this appointed role allows us to meet the requirements set by Sport Scotland and ensures we are working to best practices.

KATHRYN VERONI
MENTAL HEALTH AMBASSADOR
Kathryn is currently undertaking a TQUK Level 2 qualification in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health.
Kathryn recognises the importance of fostering good mental health, particularly for children and our karate athletes.
